There are many herbal preparations with claims to helping in diabetes. There is evidence for the use of cinnamon, some data on the use of chromium and there is now evidence for the use of liquorice root.

Researchers at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics in Berlin have now discovered that liquorice root contains substances with an anti-diabetic effect. These amorfrutins not only reduce blood sugar, they are also anti-inflammatory and are very well tolerated. Thus, they may be suitable for use in the treatment of metabolic disorders such as  obesity  pre-diabetes and  high triglycerides
